Overview​

This tool dramatically speeds up the renaming process for Revit elements by allowing batch operations on multiple items at once. Perfect for standardizing naming conventions, adding prefixes/suffixes for organization, or making bulk text replacements across your project elements.

Requirements​

Before using ReNamer, ensure your environment meets the following prerequisites:

 Autodesk Revit: From version 2020 to newest.
 NonicaTab: NonicaTab Pro or NonicaTab Free.

Usage​

Basic Bulk Renaming​

  1. Navigate to NonicaTab → ReNamer.
  2. Select Category: Choose the element type you want to rename:
    • Views (Floor Plans, Sections, Elevations, etc.)
    • Room Names
    • Grid Lines
    • Levels
    • Sheet Names
    • View Templates
  3. Select Elements: Choose elements from the displayed list:
    • Single Selection: Click individual items
    • Range Selection: Click first item, hold Shift, click last item
  4. Choose Renaming Method: Select your preferred operation from the options below.

Adding Prefixes and Suffixes​

  1. Prefix Addition:
    • Enter desired text in the Prefix field (e.g., "L2.", "Arch", "DEMO")
    • Text will be added to the beginning of existing names
  2. Suffix Addition:
    • Enter desired text in the Suffix field
    • Text will be added to the end of existing names
  3. Execute: Click Rename to apply changes to all selected elements.

Text Replacement Operations​

  1. Configure Replace Function:
    • Replace From: Enter the existing text you want to change
    • Replace To: Enter the new text to replace it with
  2. Common Use Cases:
    • Change level indicators (L2 → L3)
    • Update naming conventions (Floor Plan → Architectural Plan)
    • Correct spelling errors across multiple elements
  3. Execute: Click Rename to perform bulk replacement.

Advanced Workflow Examples​

Room Standardization:

  1. Select "Room Names" category
  2. Select all rooms on a specific level
  3. Add prefix "L2." for second level identification

View Organization:

  1. Select "Views" category, filter to "Floor Plans"
  2. Select architectural floor plans
  3. Add prefix "Arch" to distinguish from other disciplines

No, each operation works with one category at a time. You need to run separate operations for rooms, views, grids, etc., but each category can process multiple elements simultaneously.

Use Revit's Undo function (Ctrl+Z) immediately after the operation to revert all changes. For complex corrections, you can use the replace function to fix specific text across all affected elements.
