Select Fast performs enhanced element selection with single-click access to same type, family, and category selections, improving one of Revit's most common actions and eliminating repetitive multi-click selection workflows.
Version 1.1 | Specials

Overview

While Revit's standard selection methods require multiple clicks and navigation through contextual menus to select similar elements, this tool addresses that limitation by providing instant access to common selection operations. This enables rapid selection of elements by type, family, or category with single-click efficiency, significantly reducing the time spent on repetitive selection tasks that are fundamental to most Revit workflows.

Key Features

Usage includes:

  • Single-Click Type Selection: Select all elements of the same type in current view instantly.
  • Family-Based Selection: Select all elements of the same family in current view with one click.
  • Category-Wide Selection: Select all elements of the same category across the entire model.
  • Multi-Type Combination: Combine different types and select all instances simultaneously.
  • Scope Control: Choose between current view or entire model selection scope.
  • Select Within Linked Document: Selection of elements within a linked document (only from Revit 2023 and newer versions).

Usage

Understanding Standard vs. Enhanced Selection Methods

  1. Standard Revit Selection:
    • Menu Navigation: Navigate through contextual menus for each selection operation
    • Repetitive Actions: Repeat process for each selection requirement
    • Time-Intensive: Multiple clicks required for common selection tasks
  2. Enhanced Selection (This Tool):
    • Single-Click Operations: Direct access to selection types without menu navigation
    • Persistent Selection Mode: Selection functionality remains active for continuous use
    • Advanced Combinations: Multi-type selection capabilities not available in standard Revit
    • Streamlined Workflow: Reduces most common selection tasks to single clicks

Basic Selection Workflow Activation

  1. Navigate to NonicaTab Pro → Select Fast.
  2. Activate Selection Mode: Click the Select Fast button to enable enhanced selection functionality.
  3. Selection Interface: The tool provides three main selection options:
    • Same Type: Select all elements of identical type in current view
    • Same Family: Select all elements of same family in current view
    • Same Category: Select all elements of same category in entire model

Advanced Multi-Type Selection Techniques

  1. Combination Selection Setup:
    • Multi-Element Selection: Select multiple elements of different types simultaneously (e.g., 650mm door + 700mm door)
    • Type Combination: Hold Ctrl while selecting to build multi-type selection set
    • Advanced Targeting: Create custom selection groups not possible with standard Revit tools
  2. Combined Selection Execution:
    • Multi-Type Processing: Click "Same Type" with multiple selected elements
    • Comprehensive Matching: Tool selects all instances of ANY of the selected types
    • Exclusion Specificity: Other types remain unselected, maintaining precise selection control
  3. Strategic Combination Applications:
    • Related Element Groups: Select multiple door sizes, window types, or wall configurations simultaneously
    • Batch Modifications: Apply changes to specific type combinations efficiently
    • Quality Control: Review specific element type combinations across projects

FAQ

This tool provides single-click access to the same functionality and adds advanced multi-type combination selection that isn't available in standard Revit.

You can select multiple different element types (like 650mm and 700mm doors) simultaneously, then use "Same Type" to select all instances of ANY of those types in one operation. This allows complex selection patterns not possible with standard Revit tools.

"Same Type" selects identical elements (specific wall type), "Same Family" selects broader family groups (all basic walls), and "Same Category" selects entire categories (all walls project-wide). Each provides increasing scope of selection coverage.

Yes, once activated, the selection mode remains active allowing continuous single-click selection operations without needing to reactivate the tool for each selection task.

Use current view for targeted, area-specific modifications where you want to see immediate visual feedback. Use entire model for project-wide changes, comprehensive analysis, or ensuring consistency across all project areas.

Absolutely. Fast selection significantly streamlines workflows involving element modifications, property changes, filtering, analysis, and quality control by reducing selection time from multiple clicks to single clicks for common selection patterns.
