๐Ÿ”— Delete CADs Import/Link

Delete CADs Import/Link provides comprehensive detection and management of imported and linked CAD files across all views in your Revit model, eliminating the need to manually check each view individually.
Version 1.4 | Cleaners

Overviewโ€‹

While Revit's built-in Manage Links shows only linked files without view associations, this tool provides a complete overview of both imported and linked CAD files along with their specific view placements. This enables efficient identification, review, and batch deletion of CAD files that may not meet project standards or are no longer needed.

Key Featuresโ€‹

Usage includes:

  • Comprehensive CAD Detection: Displays both linked and imported CAD files with their associated views.
  • View Association Mapping: Shows exactly which view each CAD file is placed in for better organization (if view-specific).
  • Batch Management: Select and delete multiple CAD files simultaneously without opening individual views.
  • Standards Compliance: Easily identify imported files that should be converted to links for better practice.

Requirementsโ€‹

Before using Delete CADs Import/Link, ensure your environment meets the following prerequisites:

Autodesk Revit: From version 2020 to newest.
NonicaTab: NonicaTab Pro.

Usageโ€‹

Understanding Standard vs. Enhanced CAD Managementโ€‹

  1. Standard Revit Management:
    • Navigate to Manage โ†’ Manage Links
    • Shows only linked CAD files in CAD Formats tab
    • Does NOT display imported CAD files
    • No view association information provided
    • Requires manual checking of each view for complete assessment
  2. Enhanced CAD Management (This Tool):
    • Displays both linked AND imported CAD files
    • Shows specific view associations for each file
    • Enables batch selection and deletion

Basic CAD Detection Workflowโ€‹

  1. Navigate to NonicaTab Pro โ†’ Delete CADs Import/Link.
  2. Review CAD File Lists: Two separate lists will be displayed:
    • Top List - Linked CAD Files: Shows linked files with their associated views
    • Bottom List - Imported CAD Files: Shows imported files with their view placements
  3. Analyze View Associations: Verify that CAD files are properly placed in their corresponding views (e.g., Level 1 DWG in Level 1 floor plan view).

CAD File Management and Standardsโ€‹

  1. Identify Standards Issues:
    • Imported vs. Linked: Imported CAD files appear in the bottom list and should typically be converted to links
    • Missing View Associations: Files without associated views were not imported with "Current View Only" option
    • Misplaced Files: CAD files placed in incorrect views (e.g., Level 5 DWG in Level 3 view)
  2. Best Practices Review:
    • Linking CAD files is recommended over importing for better file management
    • CAD files should be view-specific when imported using "Current View Only" option
    • Proper naming and view association improves project organization

Batch Deletion Workflowโ€‹

  1. Selection Process:
    • Individual Selection: Click specific CAD files to select for deletion
    • Multiple Selection: Use standard selection methods to choose multiple files
    • Review Before Deletion: Verify selected files are no longer needed
  2. Execute Deletion:
    • Click Delete button to remove selected CAD files
    • No need to open individual views or navigate to each file location
    • Process completes immediately for all selected items

FAQโ€‹

Revit's Manage Links only shows linked CAD files and provides no view association information. This tool displays both linked AND imported CAD files along with the specific views (if view-specific) where each file is placed, enabling more comprehensive CAD management.

CAD files without associated views were imported without the "Current View Only" option checked. This means they are visible in all views rather than being view-specific. For better organization, link CAD files with "Current View Only" enabled.

Linking is the recommended approach as it maintains file references and allows for easier updates. Importing embeds the CAD file directly into the Revit model, making it harder to update and manage. The tool helps identify imported files that should be converted to links.

Yes, you can select multiple CAD files from either the linked or imported lists and delete them all at once with a single click, without needing to open individual views or navigate to each file location.

Deleting CAD files will remove them from their associated views. Ensure you no longer need these files before deletion, as the process removes them completely from the project.

Use the tool to verify that CAD files are placed in their corresponding views (e.g., Level 1 DWG in Level 1 floor plan). Import files with "Current View Only" enabled and prefer linking over importing for better file management.
